The University of Virginia Health System serves a population of approximately 2.5 to 3 million people in a rural setting. Most of this area does not have a rheumatologist available for consultation. Thus, the patient popuation that is seen at the University of Virginia is quite diverse and encompasses the spectrum of rheumatic diseases.
Directions
From The North (via Rt. 29):
Exit right onto US 29/US 250 West Bypass. Take the 4th exit (US 29 Business/Fontaine Avenue.) At end of ramp, turn left onto Fontaine Avenue. At first traffic light, turn right into Fontaine Research Park. Make first right and then first left into parking area.
From The South (via Rt. 29):
Take US 29 Business exit just past the I-64 interchange. At end of ramp, turn right onto
Fontaine Avenue. At first traffic light, make right into Fontaine Research Park. Make first right and then first left into parking area.
From The East (via I-64):
Take exit 118B (US 29). Take the next exit (US 29 Business.) At end of ramp, turn right onto Fontaine Avenue. At first traffic light, make right into Fontaine Research Park. Make first right and then first left into parking area.
From The West (via I-64):
Take exit 118B (US 29). Take the next exit (US 29 Business.) At end of ramp, turn right onto Fontaine Avenue. At first traffic light, make right into Fontaine Research Park. Make first right and then first left into parking area.
How to Plan for Your First Visit
  • If you are being referred to us by another physician, please be sure they fax your pertinent medical records and your referral (if needed) to 434.243.0239. These two items are crucial in you receiving the best care from us and the least out-of-pocket expenses when seeing us.
  • If you are referring yourself to our clinic, please fax (to the number above) or bring with you all medical records you may have from previous doctors or hospitals so we can provide you with the best medical care possible.
  • Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your appointment to allow time to check-in, fill out any paperwork, and get registered.
  • Please bring all medications with you to your appointment or have a list of your medications.
Prescription Refill Instructions
  • In an effort to avoid having to refill prescriptions in between clinic visits, please make sure you discuss your medication refills with your physician at your visit.
  • In the event that you still need to refill your prescription between visits, please call our rheumatology nurse at 434.243.0232 and leave the following information:

    1. Full Name (please spell difficult names)
    2. Medical Record Number (MRN# or UVA#)OR Social Security Number (SSN#)
    3. Your Physician
    4. Medication Information (including the dosage and how often you take it)
    5. Pharmacy Information (including phone number and/or fax number)


    Please allow up to 2 business days (Monday through Friday) from the time you call for us to refill your prescription(s).
