UVa Health System, Department of Radiation Oncology seeks men and non-pregnant women, age 18 or older, with newly diagnosed stage III or IV squamous cell head and neck cancer for a research study.
This study will compare the effects of chemotherapy with Cisplatin and radiation with those of chemotherapy with Cisplatin and radiation with the addition of vandetanib (an oral medication). Vandetanib is an investigational agent that interferes with cell communication and growth and reduces the growth of new blood vessels. Vandetanib may delay the growth of tumor cells. Vandetanib is not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
