PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
With the rapid changes in technology, the ultrasound clinician faces an increasingly complex care environment that requires frequent updates in equipment modes and evolving patient care "best practices" protocols, all within an expanding evidence-based medicine paradigm. This conference will provide you with practical information about “hot” topics in ultrasonography that can be immediately applied to patient assessment and treatment. An important facet of the conference format is multiple opportunities to interact closely with course faculty, via question and answer sessions, as well as a “hands-on” workshop in the afternoon.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This course will be useful to radiologists, primary care physicians, and sonographers
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the full range of uses of color flow vascular ultrasound
- Identify major issues in performance and interpretation of vascular ultrasound examinations for renal artery stenosis, evaluation of liver vasculature, diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis, and diagnosis of complications of venous and arterial access procedures in the extremities
- Describe current concepts of ultrasound examination and diagnosis of gynecologic disorders and disorders of the first trimester of pregnancy
- Explain new perspectives on ultrasound examination in children, with particular emphasis on head examination of the newborn infant and abdominal examination of children
- Discuss issues related to use of ultrasound for examination and guidance of procedures in the thorax
- Identify current topics in ultrasound diagnosis of diseases of the breast.
LOCATION
This course will be held in the Jordan Hall Conference Center at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center. The Jordan Hall Conference Center is located on Lane Road just off Jefferson Park Avenue .

ACCREDITATION AND DESIGNATION STATEMENTS
The University of Virginia School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The University of Virginia School of Medicine designates this education activity for a maximum of 8.25 category 1 credits towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spends in the educational activity.
The University of Virginia School of Medicine awards 0.1 CEU per contact hour to each non-physician participant who successfully completes this educational activity. The CEU (Continuing Education Unit) is a nationally recognized unit of measure for continuing education and training activities that meet specific educational planning requirements. The University of Virginia School of Medicine maintains a permanent record of participants who have been awarded CEUs.
This course is approved for 8 credit hours by the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
