CT - SPECT Prototype:
Although the dual modality planar system provides good co-registration between the structural information from the x-ray transmission images and functional images from the gamma emission images, there is some amount of ambiguity due to superposition of structures in these two images. Also, there is a need for single gamma imagers to compliment PET systems since single gamma radiotracers are readily available and there are studies that could benefit from utilization of longer-lived radioisotopes. Hence, we are now focusing on developing a CT-SPECT system based on a prototype with stationary detectors and rotating animal.
