Neuroradiology Fellowships
Lodging information at bottom of page Interested radiology residents can contact Dr. Julie Matsumoto or Christina F. Melton, for further information regarding diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology fellowships, or Dr. Lee Jensen or Christina F. Melton for further information regarding interventional neuroradiology fellowships. Fellowship positions are offered through the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center, an equal opportunity employer. The Division of Neuroradiology fellowship program is certified by the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR), the ACGME, and offers four ACGME accredited positions a year. Our fellowship program offers 1 or 2 year positions in diagnostic, and 3 year positions in interventional neuroradiology. The 2 year diagnostic neuroradiology track offers a first year of general diagnostic neuroradiology. All facets of diagnostic neuroradiology are emphasized - CT, MRI, diagnostic angiography, myelography, and percutaneous diagnostic procedures (biopsies, etc.). The second year of diagnostic neuroradiology is offered at a staff level of instructor in Neuroradiology. The instructor in Neuroradiology gains additional experience in diagnostic neuroradiological procedures, a base level of experience in interventional neuroradiological procedures, and can gain additional experience in associated neuroscience specialties; i.e., neuropathology, carotid Doppler imaging, or clinical or laboratory research. Additional teaching and clinical responsibilities are also given to the instructor-level fellows. The fellow completing a second year of diagnostic neuroradiology is eligible for senior membership in the ASNR, and may apply for the neuroradiology Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) exam given by the American Board of Radiology.
The 3 year interventional neuroradiology fellowship incorporates a first year of diagnostic neuroradiology, a second year (also at an instructor level) of dedicated laboratory research and animal work, and a third year of full-time clinical neurointerventional experience. Completing fellows are also eligible for senior membership in the ASNR, may apply for membership in the American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (ASITN), and are eligible for CAQ exams.
