Mini-Fellowship Interventional procedures related to diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal (including spine) disorders are an important and growing part of radiology. These procedures are ideally suited to the skills of radiologists as they require a thorough knowledge of musculoskeletal and neuro anatomy, knowledge of the diseases that affect these structures, and the ability to place a needle safely and rapidly to many different sites utilizing different imaging techniques. This mini-fellowship is offered only to radiologists. Procedures Lumbar spinal injections (facet blocks, selective nerve blocks, epidural steroid injections, diskograms, radiofrequency lesioning for facet syndrome), percutaneous soft tissue and bone biopsies, biopsy related techniques (RF ablation for treatment of osteoid osteomas), joint injections for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes, tendon injections, bursa injections, fascia injections and muscle injections. The focus can be tailored to the interests of the participant. Objectives of Mini-fellowship A one to five day fellowship will acquaint the participant with the multitude of procedures being done. The indications, complications, and risks of the procedures will be stressed. Pertinent anatomy and the technique for performing the procedures will receive the major emphasis, so that a radiologist should feel comfortable to do these procedures on his/her own. Methods The mini-fellowship will be taught by 3 musculoskeletal radiologists: Drs. Michelle Barr, Mark Anderson and Christopher Gaskin. There will be lectures, observation of procedures on patients, and a syllabus will be provided with pertinent reference articles, our patient forms for informed consent and pain evaluation, and protocols detailing how to perform the procedures and what to inject. Arrangements If you wish to arrange a mini-fellowship in musculoskeletal interventional procedures, please call 434-982-3255 and provide a list of dates that might work for you. We will get back to you with the dates we can accommodate you. You will then need to print and fill out the below registration form and mail along with a check. The fee is nonrefundable.
