Breast Imaging Mini-Fellowship Description Instruction in interpretation of screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, and sonographic or stereotactic guided procedures is provided. Supervision of mammographic interpretation can be performed for reaccreditation for radiologists who need to re-qualify under MQSA regulations. The content of the mini-fellowship can be tailored to the needs of the individual radiologist. A one or two day fellowship would be a refresher for screening and diagnostic mammography, as well as breast ultrasound. Indications for adjunct views and sonography are emphasized. A teaching file of over 150 cases, which emphasizes patient work-up, is available for your use. A two-day fellowship would acquaint the participant with several types of breast procedures. Commonly performed procedures include: ultrasound-guided core-needle biopsy, ultrasound-guided needle localization, ultrasound-guided cyst aspiration, stereotactic-guided core needle biopsy (throw needle and vacuum assisted devices are both used), stereotactic-guided needle localization, and conventional film-screen needle localization. Galactography is also performed, but is sporadic. We currently perform 2-5 procedures per day. The indications, complications, and risks of the procedures will be stressed. Technique and approach to procedures will be emphasized, so that a radiologist should feel comfortable to do these procedures on his/her own. If desired, a phantom can also be used to practice procedure skills. The mini-fellowship will be taught by 2 breast imaging radiologists: Drs. Jennifer Harvey, and Michael Cohen. Participants will be included in the daily work, including readout of screening mammograms, diagnostic mammography, and observation of procedures on patients. There may also be opportunity to observe our multi-disciplinary conference and/or clinic. A syllabus will be provided. Arrangements.
