Charlottesville Women's Four Miler

Pink Ribbon Runners
This was a record year! The race is the largest women's race in Virginia, with 2700 registrants. The race, which is in it's 25th year, has become a Charlottesville tradition. For those who have never participated, the race is a powerful event for many women- some are survivors, some have even just finished chemotherapy, many just want to work on living a healthier life and support other women.
The race raised over $220,000 for the UVa Breast Care Program, which is almost double from the $120,000 raised last year. The funds are used to pay for mammograms for underserved women, and supports the mobile digital mammography program and several ongoing research projects.
The Breast Program had a strong contingent of runners. Pictured above are:
- Top row: Christine Schactman RTRM, Guy Cohen of Beck-Cohen (sponsor of our team), Carmel Nail NP, Linda Rose (Breast Program Administrator), Heather White MD (Medical Oncology), Kathyrn Griener
- Bottom row: Claire Wood (development office), Alison Gaucher (Breast Program Educator), Jennifer Harvey MD (Radiology, Co-Director of UVa Breast Program), Anneke Schroen MD (Breast Surgery)
- Not pictured but also ran are Christiana Brenin MD (Medical Oncology), Patrice Neese NP (Surgery), Deb Lannigan PhD (Cell Biology).
The program is grateful for volunteers Michael Cohen MD (Radiology) and wife Marcia who were at the race site at 4:30 am putting up Motivational Mile signs.
Many women from the Radiology Dept also ran including Christina Melton (fellowship coordinator), Nicole Vaughn, and Eve Gaige, as well as Merit Gay (wife of Spencer Gay MD, residency program director).
