Clinical Service

There are 34 MDs and 11 PhDs on the faculty of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology. The department performs approximately 282,859 diagnostic examinations per year including 170,888 plain films, 9,581 special procedures, 8,601 nuclear medicine examinations, 19,289 ultrasound examinations, 4,593 neurological special procedures, 32,994 CT scans, and 17,606 MRI scans. There is modern radiographic and imaging equipment in the department thanks to very considerable capital expenditure in recent years. Our department is heavily engaged in the clinical use and development of computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.

The University of Virginia Health Sciences Center is a 549 bed hospital.

Fellowships are offered in Thoracoabdominal Imaging, Angio/Interventional, Mammography, Musculoskeletal Radiology, and Neuroradiology.
