
The University of Virginia Department of Radiology is responsible for providing and managing the medical imaging services for the UVa Health System. The Department views this responsibility as its most important mission and seeks to:

Provide patients with the best possible clinical care, using appropriate technology, in a caring and timely manner; |

Through organ-oriented subspecialization, provide world-class consultation on medical imaging to referring physicians; |

Serve patients and referring physicians in a manner that addresses their needs for accessibility and timeliness; |

• |
Provide a range of ways for referring physicians to access our services, including traditional on-site referral, over reading of films exposed in physicians' offices, express mail referrals, and teleradiology; |

Develop or implement new procedures and technologies that reduce patient morbidity and cost, improve the quality of patients' lives, and hasten their recovery; |

• |
Enhance patients' understanding about the hazards and benefits of medical imaging procedures to improve their comfort with these procedures; |

• |
Communicate to referring physicians the most cost-effective imaging methods for evaluating and treating their patients and make them aware of new imaging techniques; |

• |
Be recognized as offering the highest quality and best value in medical imaging in our region and comparable to any medical imaging service nationally. |
