James Carnes - Chief Operating Officer
James Carnes joined the Department of Radiology faculty on September 1, 2006 as the Chief Operating Officer. Since 1996, he has served as the Administrative Director for the Cardiovascular Division in Internal Medicine. In addition to having an administrative background, he also has a clinical background. An Honors graduate from the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing, he came to the University of Virginia (UVa) in 1985 to work initially in the Cardiac Step-down unit. He moved on to become the Administrative Head Nurse in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories. After obtaining a MSN degree from the UVa Graduate School of Nursing and an MBA from the Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, he accepted the position of Director of Cardiac and Medical Services at Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond. He returned to UVa in 1996.
