- System minimums:
These are the minimum system requirements to run the Medisurf application. For suggested specifications for PACS Efficient or PACS Intensive workstations go to http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/internet/radiology/computingsupport/ViewingSpecs.cfm - 600 MHz
- 512 MB RAM
- 64 MB video RAM
- 24 bit color depth
- 1024X768 video resolution
- Sun JRE 1.4.2_05 installed with the following Runtime Parameters set by the PACS app
-Xmx350m -Xms64m -Xincgc -XX:NewSize=8m -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=false -Dsun.java2d.ddscale=true -Dsun.java2d.ddoffscreen=true - PACS ICON is not on the desktop
- Run \\hscinstall\scripts\code\pacs.lnk or click on Start=>Run then type ‘pacs’
- Other Java based applications not working properly (CAS, Tracemaster, Peoplesoft, etc)
- In Internet Explorer, go to Tools->Internet Options
- Click on the ‘Advanced’ tab
- ‘Use Java 2 v1.4.x for <applet> (requires restart)’ under ‘Java (Sun)’ should not be checked
- Run \\hscinstall\scripts\code\pacs.lnk or click on Start=>Run then type ‘pacs’ to correct the problem
- Page cannot be displayed or Test PACS is displayed
- Internet Explorer crashes immediately after the login button is clicked
- For XP systems only, otherwise continue to B.
- Ensure the “Disable script debugging” box in IE - Internet Options - Advanced is checked
- Caused by Java Runtime –Xmx parameter being set too high for the amount of available memory. Use one of the 3 following procedures and follow with a restart of all open IE windows.
- Reinstall the JRE using \\hscinstall\scripts\code\pacs.lnk
- Reset the Java Runtime Parameters manually (requires administrator privileges)
- Open Java Plug-In in Control Panel
- Click the Advanced Tab
- Make sure JRE 1.4.2_05 is selected
- Adjust the –Xmx switch to a lower value
- Reset the Java Runtime Parameters using PACS (requires administrator privileges)
- From PACS home page click on “Administration” link
- Click on “Set Medisurf JAVA Settings”

- In the security warning box.:
- Check the Always Trust content from Algotec Systems LTD box
- Click Yes
- Click Close
- Clicking “Login” causes page to change, but nothing else happens
- Is the Logout button displayed?
- NO - Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.2_05 is not installed.
- YES - Logon box is hidden by this or other windows.
- Use Alt-Tab to get to the Algotec ICON (It does not show up on the Start bar)

- Change Password fails

- ICONS are missing in Archive List

- The users has resized the application window too small
- Cannot find the patient or study they are looking for
The user either has a bad query or the data is not available in PACS. - Have the user perform the following steps to show all studies for the desired patient:
PACS Archive List Window (Main Window) - Clear ALL filter fields by clicking “Search” under UVA-PACS in the “Archive List” tree.
- This version allows hiding columns with some hidden by default. Go to Missing columns in the Archive Explorer
- Enter the correct MRN in the Patient ID field (always 7 digits with preceding 0’s if necessary)
- Note, Some patients have multiple MRN’s so the user may have to look under the alternates.
- Not found – The required data is not in PACS, triage to the System Administrators Remedy queue Bob Webb (rcw9r) or contact PACS Support
- Application crashes when loading images and/or user gets Java “Out of Memory” error
- numbers may be different
- OK button may not be present
- The user would have had to click Continue to encounter the crash
- If the OK button is present the Java Runtime parameters are not entered in the Control Panel
- If the user has administrator privileges, have them click OK to have them entered
- Otherwise run \\hscinstall\scripts\code\pacs.lnk
- If OK is not present, run \\hscinstall\scripts\code\pacs.lnk
- If the above remedies do not work, have the user do the following:
- If multiple studies were being loaded, try one study at a time
- Use compression to limit the files sizes
- Load individual series from the study
- Add memory to the pc
- User cannot view image(s) previously saved using PACS
- Use Medisurf by clicking “My Computer” in Archive List.
- To change the directory to be searched Right-Click “My Computer” to get the context menu
- Click “Change Directory” and browse using a standard Windows search dialog.
- Use a 3rd party DICOM viewer.
(Osiris viewer is available from http://support.radio.virginia.edu/pacs) - Images display with multiple colors
- Set Windows Display Setting to at least 24-bit color
- Disable Smart Dithering in IE
- Click Tools menu
- Click Internet Options item
- Click Advanced
- Click Multimedia
- Uncheck Smart Image Dithering
- Missing columns in the Archive Explorer
- Right click on the column header to get the context menu
- Select Field Chooser
- Add and/or remove columns as desired.
- These changes are only remembered for the current session. To save them permanently the user must save the settings as a New Folder from the same context menu.
- Changes to the filter or columns are not remembered the next time I log in.
- Make the required changes, testing any filter changes.
- Right click on the column header to get the context menu
- Select “Save Filter as Folder”
- Half of monitor is greyed out or mirrored
- Disable unused display outputs
- Disable AGP in BIOS
- Disable extra display outputs in the operating system
- Disable SMS monitor mirroring device
- Boot into Safe Mode
- Open Device Manager
- Uninstall "SMS monitor mirror" under "Display Adapters"
- If neither solution resolves the problem, reghost the station
*Note – the –Xmx switch sets the memory “sandbox” for the java runtime instance and may be set different based on the systems available memory

This is caused by not having Java Runtime Parameters updated correctly. Have the user retry the load. The user should see the following dialog:

Filter and column changes are only remembered for customized folders. The user must save a new folder anytime they want a permanent change.

Caused by multiple display outputs or SMS monitor mirroring driver.
