Dr. McGarveyElizabeth McGarvey, Ed.D., holds a doctorate in educational psychology and is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Division. She has maintained a 12- year collaborative relationship with the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice. Dr. McGarvey has published consistently in peer-reviewed journals and has held NIH and CDC grants. In addition to serving as administrator of the Psychiatric Clinical Trials Center for several years, she has also led several evaluation and public health projects for the Virginia Department of Health. Her research over the past 14 years includes the evaluation of risk prevention programs related to childhood obesity, HIV and substance abuse; the prevention of traumatic stress related to cancer diagnosis and treatment. She has a particular interest in quality of life issues related to distress associated with sexual dysfunction across disease states.

 

Dr. Adrienne KellerAdrienne Keller, Ph.D., holds a degree in medical sciences (behavioral medicine specialty) and is an Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Health Evaluation Sciences. Dr. Keller’s primary research interest is in the attachment system across the life span. In addition to serving as Research Director for a NIDA study of incarcerated adolescents and Principal Investigator for a SAMHSA study of substance abuse prevention in the workplace, Dr. Keller has worked with the Virginia Department of Health on a number of projects related to the behavioral aspects of chronic disease. Dr. Keller is well published in peer-reviewed journals and teaches medical students (clinical epidemiology) and residents (research seminar, standardized diagnostic assessments, “triaging” research literature). She will complete a Masters degree in counseling in 2005. Dr. Keller is trained and experienced in a number of standardized interviews, including the SCID and the Adult Attachment Interview (administration and scoring).
