GENERAL ADULT PSYCHIATRY PROGRAM

 What are the requirements for this program?

The review committee gives each application individual attention and the assessment is based on the application in its entirety.  The UVA Psychiatry Residency Program seeks recent medical school graduates with a commitment to psychiatry, good academic record and clinical skills and a solid pass on the first attempt at the USMLEs. 

 Do you accept IMGs?

We welcome the diversity and experiences of International Medical Graduates.  Applicants with clinical experience in the U.S. are preferred.

 What type of visas do you offer?

The Department sponsors J-1 visas only.

 What are your cut off scores for the USMLE?

The department does not use USMLE scores as the sole criteria for accepting applications.  We do prefer to see a solid pass on the first attempt. 

    What are your application deadlines?

We accept applications until ERAS closes, however, we appreciate applications submitted before December 31, as it facilitates scheduling.   

 Do you offer observerships?

No, this deparment does not have an observership nor an externship program.
