True Stories:
Tom Comeau
Tom had his surgery on May 12, 2005 and went home the next day.
As president of an international aviation fuel company, Tom Comeau travels all over the world. When he found out he had prostate cancer, he would have traveled anywhere to find a cure. “I knew mine was a tough case and I thought to myself ‘I’ll have to sell them on me’ but my research convinced me I definitely wanted the da Vinci® surgical system and I definitely wanted UVa.” His persistence – and his homework - paid off. Today, 64-year old Tom is cancer free and completely continent. “No collateral damage whatsoever,” he says. He gives the UVa staff high marks, too. “My doctor at home was amazed at the level of detail he saw in their reports.” What advice would Tom give to someone facing prostate cancer? “If you’re a candidate for da Vinci, I’d say number one, get it done. Number two, get it done at UVa. They’re the best. Believe me, I did the research.”
