Prostate Cancer:
Diagnosis
A simple blood test that looks for high levels of a prostate protein (PSA) — combined with a Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) — performed by your doctor is the first step in identifying prostate cancer. Once diagnosed, more tests will be performed to determine for sure if cancer is present and whether or not the cancer has spread from the prostate to other parts of the body. This process is called staging and is an important step toward planning a treatment program.
