The PNSO pursues the shared governance mission outlined by its Bylaws through the Nursing Cabinet and a number of standing committees, subcommittees and annually-commissioned initiatives.
In most cases, committee membership is determined by personal interest and volunteerism. Some groups, such as Nursing Cabinet, Nursing Congress, and the Clinical Practice Committee, strive for a model in which voting members broadly represent the perspective of designated segments of the nursing population. The composition of some groups is defined by the Bylaws (Executive Committee of the Cabinet; Career Ladder Central Panel; Nominating Committee). In the case of the Nursing Research Program, new Research Mentors are identified through an annual application and selection process.
