The UVAHS Professional Nursing Staff Organization

Getting Involved

The PNSO strongly encourages each UVA nurse to take an active role in our shared governance of professional nursing practice at UVAHS! Your actions will make a positive impact on behalf of your nursing colleagues and the care we provide our patients, whether your involvement is based in your local practice area, one of the PNSO committees, Nursing Congress, Nursing Cabinet, or one of the many interdisciplinary groups requesting input from nurses.

These are just some of your many options for getting involved:

bullet diamond 2Participate in the annual Nursing Worklife Survey - every voice counts, and this feedback drives the agenda of the PNSO!

bullet diamond 2Participate in the annual PNSO Elections; consider running for one of the PNSO's elected offices.

bullet diamond 2Participate on a PNSO committee or interdisciplinary committee.

bullet diamond 2Nominate a colleague for recognition, such as the annual Nursing Excellence Awards.

bullet diamond 2Read PNSO communications regularly - these include nursing-specific PNSO emails, the PNSO website, the Practice News newsletters, the Professional Nursing Quarterly newsletters, and the PNSO Annual Report.

bullet diamond 2Develop a relationship with your local representatives: your Cabinet member and Congress Delegates.

bullet diamond 2Join the efforts of the Nursing Research Program as a research project team member or as a Research Mentor.

bullet diamond 2Be actively involved in evidence-based practice- and education-related activities in your practice area as a Nursing Educational Coordinator or Local Practice Chair/committee member.

bullet diamond 2Obtain support from the Nurses' Professional Development Fund and Certification Support Fund; help colleagues receive support as well by donating to the Fund.

bullet diamond 2Become a Magnet Champion, and join the PNSO's efforts to achieve Magnet Recognition.

bullet diamond 2Send feedback, questions and suggestions anytime on clinical practice, shared governance, or any nursing issue directly to the PNSO Office and to Dr. Cipriano.
