bullet gray December 14, 2009: The Kluge Compassionate Care Lecture Series sponsored by the University of Virginia Schools of Nursing and Medicine is pround to bring you "Cultivating a Wise and Compassionate Heart: Resiliency Practices for Clinicians" presented by: Sharon Salzberg, founder, Insight Meditation Society.  This presentation will be given from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm in the McLeod Hall Auditorium, School of Nursing.  Caring for patients and families facing chronic and life-threatening conditions can deplete clinicians' energy and compassionate care. This 3-hour workshop is an opportunity to rediscover the resiliency of the human spirit. For many, the feelings of being overwhelmed and stressed have become all too common. Balance of heart and mind is the key to sustaining ourselves, especially in the face of daily challenges, suffering and grief. The practice of meditation helps to develop three essential skills that cultivate balance: concentration, mindfulness and compassion. This workshop will explore the explore the challenges of caring for people who are experiencing pain, suffering, grief, and emphasize practices to cultivate balance and resilience and move us towards deeper care, both for ourselves and for others.
