Jason Franz

Jason Franz received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Tech, with emphasis in the field of lower extremity biomechanics. Jason's primary research interests include the energetics and biomechanics of human movement with applications in both sports medicine and rehabilitation science. He is a co-investigator of NIH funded research investigating the effects of flexibility on walking ability in the elderly and of research investigating the role of footwear on the biomechanics of running. In addition, Jason focuses on the design, development, and implementation of the laboratory's actively controlled partial body weight support system; a tool used for the rehabilitation of patients with various neurological pathologies or musculoskeletal injuries. He is also excited to be a part of the University of Virginia's Center for Endurance Sport, providing state-of-the-art biomechanical evaluations for runners and cyclists around the world.
