Professional interests: Sports, outpatient MSK
Hobbies: Running, mountain biking
Quote: "I came to UVA for several reasons. I like sports and musculoskeletal medicine and wanted to be able to work with Dr. Wilder, who is very respected within the sports medicine field. Not only are there opportunities to work with him, but there are opportunities outside the clinic, like covering the UVA training room and local high school football games. I also was very interested in gait, and gait research. Dr. Kerrigan is the one of the most well known gait researchers around. The gait lab is a fancy one and there are only a few like it around. These attractions were not just pipe dreams. It was very easy for me to get involved with both of these things. I was lead author and second author on two big research projects that recently came out of the lab. I got to work closely with Dr. Wilder, and he is opening up doors for me for when I graduate. Finally, having lived here as an undergrad I was very familiar with all of the awesome recreational and cultural opportunities that this place has to offer. I don't want to leave!"

Hobbies: Running, hanging out with my wife, playing with my dogs
Quote: "My interest in sports medicine brought me to UVA. The UVA Runners Clinic, gait lab, and annual running medicine conference were particular selling points. I know of no other program where you can fit a paraplegic patient for a wheelchair one day and the following day bike-fit a triathlete. The UVA program has expanded the definition of return-of-function to include maximizing elite athletic performance."

Quote: "The UVA PM&R Department is a great fit for my interests in sports medicine, research, and academic leadership. The program features great sports medicine experiences while maintaining solid training in procedures and more traditional aspects. I have access to several research facilities such as the Gait Lab, Sports Medicine Laboratory, and General Clinical Research Center, and have been able to develop collaborative relationships with faculty members across several departments. The department leadership also encourages my efforts to be active at the University and in organizations such as the Association for Academic Physiatry. My fellow residents all support each other, and from a lifestyle standpoint it is tough to beat Charlottesville's atmosphere, active population, and scenery."

Quote: "I have wanted to come back to Charlottesville since I attended the UVA Young Writer's Workshop at age 14. The area is beautiful, the people are friendly, there are a ton of activities and good restaurants considering it's a "small town." The fact that the PM&R program was so strong made it an easy decision to rank UVA first. With a smaller program you get more personal attention, opportunities for research, and experience with procedures and EMGs. The faculty and residents are dedicated, driven but down to earth, and passionate."

Everything you need is within a 3 mile a radius...and you can't beat home call!"
