Independent Residency Program

Raymond F. Morgan, M.D., Program Director

All residents on the Plastic Surgery service participate in the complete spectrum of cases as prescribed by the Residency Review Committee. These include congenital anomalies, maxillofacial trauma, hand and microsurgery, head and neck cancer, aesthetic surgery, thermal injury, and general reconstructive surgery. The department's philosophy is one of increasing resident responsibility under the close supervision of the attending staff. Residents participate in the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative management of each patient and are encouraged to formulate and execute treatment plans as they progress in training. A separate Chief Resident's Clinic is maintained to allow for this independent growth. In addition, there are four weekly conferences designed to meet the educational needs of the department.

Well-equipped and staffed laboratories have been established for wound healing research, and specialized training and research in microsurgery. Residents are encouraged to participate in basic and clinical research projects, with the goal of presenting at national meetings.

The Department of Plastic Surgery considers all applicants to its independent program and participates with the San Francisco Match Program. Please contact their office for registration materials.
