Fellowship Training in Pediatric Critical Care |
- The Division of Critical Care at UVa Children's Hospital offers fellowship training leading to board certification in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. The 36-month fellowship is accredited by the American Board of Pediatrics and is designed to provide in-depth clinical and research training in all aspects of pediatric critical care medicine.
- The schedule for the three years of training is flexible and equal time is given for both clinical training and research. Clinical training thus constitutes 18 months of the three years, with call responsibilities one in four nights and one in four weekends.
- The fellowship program can also be tailored for candidates who have additional training beyond the pediatric residency. Additionally, we welcome inquiry by those who seek training in other sub-specialties of pediatrics such as cardiology or pulmonology as well as combined training in anesthesiology. This unique program is arduous and available only to highly motivated individuals who desire the advantages of additional credentials beyond pediatric intensive care. Applicants for this special program must clearly state their intentions early in the application process.
- It should be stressed that this is an academically-oriented fellowship with particular emphasis placed on training in the design, performance, and publication of creative investigative work. An additional year of training is available for select candidates in either basic or clinical research with funding available for the pursuit of advanced degrees (MS or PhD).
