Didactic Curriculum in Critical Care

To complement bedside teaching in the PICU, the Division hosts a series of educational activities: 

  • Fellow’s curriculum consisting of weekly sessions with all the division faculty and fellows to review and discuss core topics in the fundamentals of physiology and pathophysiology of critical care medicine and in pediatric cardiac critical care with the following goals:
    • To build a solid foundation for the clinical practice of critical care that complements the fellow's experiential learning in the PICU and
    • To nurture the growth of fellows as future academic clinicians, investigators and educators.

  • Pediatric Critical Care Division conferences rotate among:
      • Journal Club
      • Research in Progress
      • Morbidity & Mortality Conference
      • Division Business Meetings  
      • Fellow’s case of the month in which the fellow leads an evidence-based discussion of a controversial therapeutic or diagnostic decision required in the face of uncertainty
  • The resident core lecture series covers basic issues in Pediatric Critical Care and is geared to housestaff rotating through the PICU. 2nd and 3rd year fellows are expected to develop a talk for this series which repeats on a monthly cycle.
