Gynecologic Oncologist
Linda R. Duska, M.D., Specializes in Endometrial Cancer, Preserving Fertility
Linda R. Duska, M.D., brings 13 years of experience to the University of Virginia Cancer Center, where her areas of expertise include clinical trials in gynecologic oncology, minimally invasive surgical procedures, treating endometrial cancer and preserving fertility in women undergoing cancer treatment.
Fellowship-trained and board-certified in gynecologic oncology, Duska comes to UVA from Harvard Medical School, where she spent the past 10 years practicing and teaching gynecologic oncology.
Duska sees patients with gynecologic malignancies as well as patients who need complex pelvic surgery for benign disease. Her surgical areas of focus include minimally invasive surgical procedures – both laparoscopic and robotic-assisted – to treat gynecologic cancers, especially endometrial cancer. She also provides treatment for gynecologic cancer tailored to women seeking to preserve fertility. Those treatments include performing radical trachelectomies instead of hysterectomies to preserve a woman’s uterus when clinically appropriate, as well as treating endometrial cancer with hormones instead of surgery.
Duska is also working to expand the number of clinical trials available at UVA’s National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center. Duska recently helped UVA earn Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) approval as a site for Phase I clinical trials, making additional investigational therapies available to patients at UVA.
“This will make available new drugs under development, new biologics, new chemotherapies – treatments that might not be available elsewhere,” she says.
