TandemHeartTM LVAD System
The TandemHeart LVAD consists of three pieces of equipment: a pump, a cannula set and a controller.
The TandemHeart Pump helps moves blood from the left atrium to circulate throughout the body and is able to pump 5 liters/minute of blood flow, equal to the heart's resting output.
The TandemHeart Cannula Set is inserted percutaneously through the femoral vein and is advanced to the left atrium, where it connects the TandemHeart Pump to the rest of the body.
The TandemHeart Controller has two control systems: a primary system and a backup system in case the primary system fails. The controller feeds a lubricant (saline combined with an anticoagulant) to keep the pump running.
