Blocked Basilar Artery
The basilar artery is blocked just past its origin.
After infusing a clot-busting drug, the rest of the basilar artery now fills. There is a very tight stenosis that caused the clot to form.
After angioplasty of the stenosis, the entire basilar artery is filling with contrast. Some residual stenosis remains. |
Blocked Cerebral Artery
A clot (arrow) blocks the middle cerebral artery.
After infusing a clot-busting drug directly on the clot, there has been partial melting of the clot and improved flow through the artery. A residual piece of clot remains (arrow).
After additional clot-busting drug is infused - and a wire is used to help chop up the clot - the entire middle cerebral artery is open and there is complete flow to the branches. The patient recovered fully. |
