INTRODUCTION

Physical Therapy services are organized into six teams.  There are two CCCEs one for Adult and one for Pediatrics.

 Inpatient and outpatient adult rehabilitation services are provided by a UVA/HealthSouth joint venture. A new rehabilitation hospital and outpatient facility opened in 1998. The joint venture has its own student program and CCCE.

 STAFF/ TEAMS

There are approximately 30 therapists in the department (including fulltime, float, and wage) as well as a PT aide. There are six  physical therapy teams, with one or more senior clinicians in charge of the team. These patient-focused teams are also comprised of multi-disciplinary team members and designed around specific diagnoses. The areas are: Musculoskeletal, Surgical, Neuroscience, Medicine, Heart, and Pediatrics.

Generally, each student is assigned to one team and one experienced clinical instructor during his or her affiliation.

GYM PASS

Students may purchase an intramural pass to use all University gym facilities while you are here. There is a fee involved. Further details will be provided on your first day.

PARKING

Parking is available along the streets (but difficult to find!), or parking stickers may be purchased for a small fee ($13.00 per 4 weeks) through Parking and Transportation 434-924-7231. The sticker will allow parking in a satellite area with use of a shuttle system. Hospital garage parking is for patient visitors only.

LIBRARY

The Claude Moore Health Sciences Library is located between Hospital West and Jordan Hall and is available to all students with a hospital ID.  A login for computer access will be provided when you arrive.  A computer lab, MEDLINE, and Internet access are available.

ID

An identification badge will be necessary while here at UVA, and must be worn at all times when involved in patient care. The CCCE will take you to obtain an ID on the first day of your affiliation.

EMPLOYEE HEALTH

Bring documentation of your PPD (TB test within 1 year) on health service letterhead, and information on prior vaccinations/immunizations (diphtheria, MMR, varicella) with the name of a contact person from your student health. If you do not have a current TB test when you arrive, the hospital will require that you undergo the test. PLEASE BRING A COPY OF YOUR IMMUNIZATIONS.

MEALS

The University does not provide meals. Cafeterias are accessible in the hospital with a cost of $2.50 - $7.00 per meal.

HOUSING

The University does not provide housing. It is the student's responsibility to make arrangements.  Please contact the CCCE if you are having difficulties with this.
