Matthew Gurka receives NIH grant to study impact of chronic illness on developmental health of children
Matthew J. Gurka, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Public Health Sciences and Pediatrics, received an R03 grant from the NICHD to use existing data from the NICHD Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development (SECCYD) to assess the role of chronic illness, such as asthma, on the emotional, developmental, and behavioral health of children. Taking into account the confounding effect of various demographic, socioeconomic, and child care factors, the impact of chronic illness on the observed trends of emotional, developmental, and behavioral health over time will be examined.
