Theodorescu, Lee publish breakthrough work on new chemotherapy profiling algorithm
Dan
Theodorescu, M.D., Ph.D., Paul Mellon Professor of Urology, and
Jae
Lee, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Public Health Sciences, have
published what may be a breakthrough in utilizing molecular profiling
to personalize cancer chemotherapy for individual tumor types. They
have combined expertise in bioinformatics and in cancer biology to
develop the COXEN Algorithm which examines both cancer cells and drug
activity at the molecular level, and predicts response to anticancer
drugs. The work was performed in collaboration with colleagues at the
National Cancer Institute, GenLogic Inc and UVa Computer Sciences
Department, and has been featured in the
NCI
Bulletin, numerous national media and the
MIT Technology Review.
