Program Expectations
The Specialty Residency in Cardiology at the Universityof Virginiais a one-year program designed to train pharmacists in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy. Emphasis is placed on the development of clinical skills required to provide specialized cardiovascular pharmaceutical care and on the development of clinical cardiovascular research skills.
The purpose of the Specialty Residency in Cardiology is to train the pharmacy resident to enter practice as a specialist in cardiology. Training will emphasize elements of practice critical to a successful career as a cardiology specialist, including:

Provision of pharmaceutical care, as part of a multidisciplinary care team, to hospitalized and ambulatory patients with complex cardiovascular disease;

Initiation of and participation in collaborative research in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy

teaching of cardiovascular pharmacotherapeutics in didactic and experiential environments to multidisciplinary health care providers.
