Amy P. Adams, Pharm.D.
Dr. Adams serves as Coordinator for Investigational Drug Services at UVA. She works with researchers, sponsors, and research staff to conduct clinical trials for over 150 active protocols including inpatient and outpatient trials. She has experience dealing with trials for transplant, oncology, cardiology, neurology, pulmonary diseases, AIDS/Infectious diseases, pediatrics, endocrinology, rheumatology, surgery, and diseases of addiction. Currently she serves as an active member on the Human Subject Research Committee (the institutional review board), General Clinical Research Advisory Committee and Safety Monitoring Committee at the University. Dr. Adams received her Pharm.D. degree from Campbell University. She serves as a preceptor to Pharm.D. students and PGY2 residents.
Kathleen A. Bledsoe, Pharm.D., BCPS
Dr. Bledsoe is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Neurosciences. Her primary practice site is in the neurosurgical/neurological intensive care unit, where she serves as a preceptor to pharmacy residents and Pharm.D. students. She also serves as the team leader of the neurosciences clinical pharmacy team and provides and/or supervises clinical pharmacy coverage for the neuro ICU associated step-down units, the stroke unit, and the epilepsy unit. She is also a member of the acute stroke code response team. Dr. Bledsoe received her Pharm.D. degree from Albany College of Pharmacy. She completed an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency as well as an ASHP-accredited Specialized Residency in Critical Care at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Marcia Lease Buck, Pharm.D., FCCP
Dr. Buck is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Pediatrics and Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Schools of Medicine and Nursing. Her primary practice sites include the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units and the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center. She serves as a preceptor to residents and Pharm.D. students in these three areas, as well as general pediatrics and pediatric subspecialties. Dr. Buck received her B.S. Pharm. and Pharm.D. degrees from Purdue University. She completed a Specialized Residency in Pediatrics and a Fellowship in Pediatric Pharmacotherapy at the Medical University of South Carolina. Her research interests include the use of dopamine agonists and acetylcholinesterase inhibitors in children with traumatic brain injury, the use of medications during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and medications for infants and children requiring cardiac surgery. She was recently elected to the Board of Regents of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).
Stephanie Mallow Corbett, Pharm.D.
Dr. Mallow Corbett is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the Emergency Department. Her primary practice site includes adult emergency medicine and toxicology. She serves as a preceptor to PGY1 and PGY2 Residents and Pharm.D. students in these areas. Dr. Mallow Corbett received her Pharm.D. degree from Albany College of Pharmacy. She completed an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency, an ASHP-accredited Specialized Residency in Critical Care, and a Fellowship in Trauma/Critical Care at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vermont. She has focused research efforts in analgesia, sedation, and delirium, for which she has published several articles. Her additional areas of interest include health outcomes, patient safety, toxicology, trauma management, and the use of technology within the hospital system for education and medication utilization.
Heather L. Cox, Pharm.D., BCPS
As the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases, Dr. Cox provides pharmacotherapy services for both the antimicrobial stewardship and the adult infectious diseases consult teams. She received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from McGill University in Montréal, Québec, Canada and her Doctor of Pharmacy from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She then completed residencies in Pharmacy Practice and Infectious Diseases at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her interests include antimicrobial stewardship, mechanisms of resistance, and HIV pharmacotherapy.
Kathlene DeGregory, Pharm.D., BCOP
Dr. DeGregory is a Pharmacy Clinical Specialist for Hematology/Oncology. Her primary practice site is the inpatient hematology/oncology unit where she serves as a preceptor for pharmacy residents and Pharm.D. students. She also serves as the team leader for the hematology/oncology clinical pharmacy team and provides and/or supervises clinical pharmacy coverage for the outpatient infusion center. Kathlene received her B.S. degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and her Pharm.D. degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her interests include hematologic malignancies and novel targeted therapies.
Rebecca Haynes Hockman, Pharm.D., BCPS
Dr. Hockman is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. She received her BS and Pharm.D. degrees from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University. She serves as preceptor for Pharm.D. students, PGY1 pharmacy residents, and PGY2 critical care residents. Dr. Hockman also serves as Co-Director for the critical care residency program.
Dr. Kelsey is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Women's Health. Her primary practice sites include Obstetrics (Labor & Delivery), Gynecology, and Gynecologic Oncology. She serves as a preceptor to residents and Pharm.D. students in these areas as well. Dr. Kelsey received her Pharm.D. degree from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. She completed an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Utah and a Specialized Residency in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Neonatology at The Regional Medical Center at Memphis. In addition to her areas of practice, her other interests include palliative care and pain management.
Dr. McCarthy is the director of drug information and the residency program director for both the PGY1 pharmacy residency and PGY2 drug information residency programs. She also serves as a preceptor to PGY1 residents and Doctor of Pharmacy students completing drug information rotations. Dr. McCarthy, a graduate of Mercer University, completed an ASHP-accredited Drug Information Practice Residency at the University of Pittsburgh. Awards include the 1997 Teacher of the Year at Samford University School of Pharmacy, the 2003 Virginia Society of Health-System Pharmacists (VSHP) Pharmacist of the Year, and the 2008 Louis P. Jeffrey Preceptor of the Year. She oversees the UVa inpatient and outpatient Formularies and is the Secretary of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. She is the Education Committee Chair, Continuing Education Administrator, and the immediate Past-President of VSHP. She is also a member of the ASHP Commission on Credentialing. Other professional interests include immunizations, medical writing and publishing.
Dr. Paige is a Clinical Staff Pharmacist in the central pharmacy. Her primary practice sites are shared between the inpatient pharmacy and the Surgery service. Her primary practice area within the surgery service is Transplantation. She serves as preceptor to Pharm.D. students and residents in these areas as well. Dr. Paige received her Pharm.D. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville.
Stacey B. Pattie, Pharm.D., BCPS
Dr. Pattie is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Adult Internal Medicine. She received her Pharm.D. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed a pharmacy practice residency at the University of Virginia Health System. Dr. Baker serves as a preceptor and advisor for pharmacy residents and Pharm.D. students and mentors members of the internal medicine decentral pharmacy team.
Jefferson M. Sesler, Pharm.D., BCPS
Dr. Sesler is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgery. Dr. Sesler received his BS in Biology from Virginia Tech. He received his BS in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) School of Pharmacy at Virginia Commonwealth University. He completed an ASHP-accredited Hospital Pharmacy Residency at the MCV Hospitals/Virginia Commonwealth University. He serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students, PGY1 Pharmacy Residents, and PGY2 Critical Care Residents. In addition to his areas of practice, his other interest includes infectious diseases.
Dr. Spencer is a Clinical Pharmacist in Primary Care. She is currently serving an indigent Internal Medicine Clinic, where patients are referred for hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, anticoagulation, medication management, and tobacco cessation. She also serves in a geriatric clinic associated with UVA twice a week. Dr. Spencer precepts Pharm. D. students and will be precepting pharmacy residents starting in 2009. She received her B.A. in biology and psychology from the University of Virginia, Pharm.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University, and completed a pharmacy practice residency at the Medical College of Virginia. She is currently working towards her Certification in Diabetes from the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators. In addition to her areas of practice, her other interests include geriatrics, lipids, and heart failure management.
Dr. Volles is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Volles received his BS in Biology from Virginia Tech and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Volles completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Dr. Volles serves as Program Co-Director for the PGY2 Residency in Critical Care and serves as a preceptor for pharmacy residents, and pharmacy students. He is also a member of the Human Investigation Committee, the institutional review board. His areas of interest include infectious complications in surgery and critically ill patients, pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic alterations in critically ill patients, and thromboembolic complications in surgical patients.
Ms. White is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Primary Care. Currently, she serves an Internal Medicine Clinic, where patients are referred for hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, anticoagulation, and tobacco cessation. She also serves in the Diabetes Cardiology Clinic. Ms. White precepts pharmacy residents and Pharm. D. students. She received her BS in Pharmacy from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. She received her Certification in Diabetes from the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators. In addition to her areas of practice, her other interests include geriatrics, patient safety, and lipid management. Ms. White is the Program Director for the PGY2 Residency in Primary Care.
Barbara Wiggins, Pharm.D., BCPS (AQ Cardiology), CLS, FAHA
Dr. Wiggins is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Cardiology. She received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from St. Louis College of Pharmacy and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia Campus. Following completion of her Pharm.D., Dr. Wiggins completed a fellowship in Cardiology and Emergency Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Wiggins is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine division of Cardiology at the University of Virginia Medical School and Clinical Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy. Her clinical practice includes the coronary care unit and cardiology step down units. Additional practice includes medication classes to patients enrolled in Health Systems cardiac rehabilitation program and working in the Lipid Clinic. She serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students, pharmacy practice residents, and specialized residents, and is the Coordinator for Pharmacy Grand Rounds and the Code-12 training program. Dr. Wiggins is also a member of the Cardiovascular Expert Panel for USP and serves as secretary for the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology (ACCL). She is on the board for the Southeast Lipid Association (SELA). She has been awarded diplomate status with the ACCL that designates her as a Clinical Lipid Specialist. Dr. Wiggins is also a Fellow of the American Heart Association and the Council on Clinical Cardiology. Her areas of interests include lipid management, acute coronary syndromes, and congestive heart failure. Dr. Wiggins has published numerous articles and book chapters in the field of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy.
