INPATIENT ROTATIONS |
|
UVA Ward The UVA Ward teams usually meet at 7:30 AM on 7W. The ward resident assigns each student to 1 of 2 ward teams which consist of a resident and two interns. There are usually 2 to 3 students per team. Students will take night call concurring with the day their team is on call. The resident & intern brief students on ward responsibilities. Each student assigned to the UVA Pediatrics ward rotation will spend one week (during the 4 week rotation) working with the Pediatrics resident assigned to the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology service. During that week, the student(s) assigned to the Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology inpatient service will work with the Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology resident during the mornings (weekdays) and not "round" with the Pediatrics ward team. Those students will take night call in rotation with the other students (usually every 4th night), and will participate in afternoon teaching conferences. . NEWBORN NURSERY ROTATION AT UVA The Newborn Nursery rotation is divided between the “regular” newborn nursery (8th floor) and the “transitional nursery” (in the “D Pod” area of the NICU on 7 East). Students will spend one week in each setting, although some of the rounds will be held in common. On Day 1 of the nursery rotation, report to the Newborn Nursery on the 8th floor at 8 AM for your assignments. The timing of attending rounds and work rounds will vary with the location and attending. Students are expected to follow the courses of the babies assigned to them. Presentations of these cases are required on rounds. Frequently, the attending will assign miscellaneous topics for presentation and discussion on rounds or for short presentations to the team.
