Annual Research Symposium

The Battle Award

The University of Virginia Children's Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics are very grateful to Bill and Barry Battle who have been instrumental in promoting and expanding pediatric research at the University of Virginia through The Bill and Barry Battle Research Fund.

Established in 1992, The Battle Research Fund was established to honor outstanding research to improve the health care of children by Children's Hospital faculty and fellows at UVA. The Battle Award is now given annually to a member of the pediatric faculty whose research is judged to be novel and competitive for NIH funding.

From 1992 to 1999, the Battle Award recognized fellows for excellence in clinical care and teaching.

Thanks to additional funding from the Battles, this award has now become a substantial source of funding.

Since the year 2000, the Battle Award has been given to a member of the faculty whose Grant-In-Aid proposal and research accomplishments during the past academic year were judged to be extraordinary by the Children's Hospital Research and Grant Review Committee.
