Physician and Appointment InformationDoctors Stephen M. Borowitz and James L. Sutphen in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the Children's Medical Center have a great deal of experience and expertise in evaluating and treating infants and children with constipation and/or encopresis. They have conducted research in this area and have written about this subject in the medical literature. In conjunction with members of Division of Behavioral Medicine at the University of Virginia, Drs. Borowitz and Sutphen have developed a novel "enhanced toilet training program" that helps children understand how to use their muscles correctly while straining using a variety of behavioral modification techniques Drs.
