Outpatient Rehabilitation Outcomes Overview
2006
Patients and family outcomes at KCRC are reviewed during their stay and after they leave to make sure 1. that they are getting better, 2. that patient and family resources are used in the best manner, and 3. that the experience is a good one.
- Most (70%) of the outpatient rehabilitation children that KCRC cares for are patients with developmental disabilities, Cerebral Palsy and/or feeding issues although patients with brain and/or other traumatic injuries are also common. On average patients are treated for about 5-6 months with exceptions for feeing children at 3-4 weeks. Some stays are shorter or longer depending on each child's need and program plans.
- Activities of daily living, both physical (movement, doing age appropriate activities) are measured against pre-set goals to help plan care and assess progress.
- KCRC patients on average, see about a 4% increase in functioning (self care, movement, and communication abilities) from when they get here to when they leave. Additional gains of about 8% can be expected after discharge too.
- 93% of families stated they return in their "community" at pre diagnosis/injury levels and 90% were able to participate in social activities outside the family. 86% said that their child had been involved in play/leisure activities in the last week.
- 89% of families (those applicable) reported that they agree or strongly agree to being satisfied with the child's transition to school.
- 81% of patients/families reported they agree or strongly agree to being satisfied with child's transition back to the community.
- 88% of patients/families reported they agree or strongly agree to being satisfied with child's re-entry to play/leisure activities.
