The Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center (KCRC) at the University of Virginia has specialized rehabilitation programs in several areas.
Acquired Brain Injury
KCRC provides a comprehensive rehabilitation program for children from birth through 21 years of age with acquired brain injury (ABI). Children are admitted at various stages in their recovery, including low-response patients being treated with medications to promote arousal and alertness.
At KCRC, each child is assigned a team that follows the child throughout his/her stay. The patient and family are an important part of the team. Parents and staff work together to determine individualized goals, and families are encouraged to participate in therapies and to stay with their children.

Spinal Cord Injury
KCRC has been serving children with spinal cord injury for many years. We offer comprehensive, individualized, expert care based on the particular needs of the patients and families we serve. We provide a family-centered rehabilitation approach that emphasizes support of the family not only during treatment, but also during each patient's transition back to home, school, community, or play and leisure activities.
As part of the UVA Children's Hospital, we have access to all medical and surgical specialties. Our facility, set on 12 acres of rolling hills, helps promote a peaceful atmosphere for healing. When not in scheduled activities, children and families are welcome to roam the grounds, play on the playground, and help KCRC staff tend to the greenhouse.

Encouragement Feeding Program
The Pediatric Encouragement Feeding Program (EFP) at the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center is an intensive day treatment program that focuses on treating pediatric feeding disorders by normalizing the oral feeding experience. An interdisciplinary team approach is used in a family-centered care atmosphere to ensure family participation and long term success.
The EFP began in 1990 and is well-established. We continue to use outcome measures and parent satisfaction surveys to help us evolve and grow as a program.
