The goal of this educational module is to help you, the primary physician, better care for children with AD/HD. Should you desire consultation regarding your patient with AD/HD, the University of Virginia offers the following services.


AD/HD Clinic
Staffed by a pediatric nurse practitioner and developmental pediatrician, this clinic offers the optimal conditions for management of the more difficult clinical scenario. Physician's can utilize this clinic for consultation regarding medication adjustment or may refer for ongoing follow-up. This clinical setting offers a more intensive setting for parent education, discussion and management of behavioral difficulties, and information regarding the role of complementary therapies in the treatment of AD/HD. Barkely Parenting Skills Seminars
Held several times each year, these evening seminars offer the opportunity for families to learn the special skills needed to manage a child who is more difficult to parent. To refer a patient contact the referral coordinator by e-mail or phone (800)-627-8596 (extension 4-1573).
Services for Adults with AD/HD:
Dr. Michael Coates in the Department of Family Medicine offers consultation regarding treatment and identification of services for adolescents and adults with AD/HD. To refer a patient call (434)924-1165.
UVA Child and Family Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic:
This clinic offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for children and adolescents with AD/HD. Associated comorbid conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, learning problems, and aggressiveness are also managed. A variety of behavioral, psychotherapeutic, and pharmacological approaches are tailored to the individual patient, family, school and clinical situation. Staff includes child pyschiatry and psychology faculty. Psychological and Neuropsychological Testing are available. Referrals may be directed to the intake coordinator at (434) 243-6950.
Child Neurology Services
This Child Neurology Clinic offers comprehensive neurological evaluation which may include EEG, neuroimaging, genetic & metabolic studies, and school liaision. Special consideration can be given to a wide range of pharmacotherapeutic interventions with clearly defined therapeutic goals and detailed risk/benefit analysis. The UVA neurology staff aim to work in close collaboration with the primary care physician, with follow-up in the neurology clinic at appropriate intervals.
