One proposed model to explain the observed clinical variation among children with AD/HD postulates abnormalities in three neurotransmitters functioning at different locations within the brain. All three types meet DSM IV criteria for AD/HD but represent different neurochemical pathologies which may respond differentially to specific pharmacotherapies.
