RENAL PATHOLOGY
Drs. Cathro, Sturgill, Tung & Wick
Beginning during the first year of training, Anatomic Pathology residents spend one month on the combined Renal Pathology/Dermatopathology Service. The Renal Pathology Service studies approximately 250 renal biopsies each year and in the vast majority of cases electron microscopy and immunofluorescence studies are performed. The resident assigned to the Renal Pathology Service is responsible for the initial examination of grids and photographs and the preparation of a report integrating light, electron microscopic and immunofluorescence findings. During the course of their rotations in this area, residents will examine 75 to 80 kidney biopsies, encompassing the full spectrum of native and transplant renal pathology.
