CLINICAL PATHOLOGY RESIDENCY TRAINING comparea

The training program for residents in Clinical Pathology is supervised and coordinated by the Director of Clinical Laboratories, Dr. Paul Mintz. The directors of the individual divisions of the Clinical Laboratories are responsible for the part of the program which relates to their division.

The first year program consists of core training in Clinical Pathology with 3 months in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine and Hematology, 2 months in Microbiology and Clinical Chemistry,  and 1 month in Immunology and Cytogentics/Molecular Pathology. The second year of Clinical Pathology training consists of a continuation of the core program for a six month period and includes  Cytogenetics/Molecular Biology and Hematopathology.  During the second year of Clinical Pathology training, the resident will also have the opportunity to spend elective periods in the various areas of Clinical Pathology.

Throughout the time that residents spend in the training program in Clinical Pathology, they are required to attend the weekly lecture series that is given by the faculty. These lectures give the residents a foundation of knowledge on which to build during their clinical rotations. In addition, there are bi-monthly lectures covering Coagulation medicine and Hematopathology.  Also while in the Clinical Pathology program, residents are encouraged to attend the regular weekly Departmental research seminar series.
