Welcome

The University of Virginia recognizes service to others as one of our highest callings. Through our shared missions of education, research and health care, we seek to improve the quality of life for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. This site highlights some of the activities of the Health System and specifically the office of Community Relations, Outreach, and Service in helping to meet the needs of our community.

Community Involvement

Ultimately, the goal of our community service efforts is to break down the barriers separating the Health System from the community it serves. It is only when these obstacles are eliminated that we can work together to improve health and quality of life.

Accordingly, community involvement stands as a measure of our success. This year over 1,000 members of the community volunteered with us, donating more 66,000 hours of their time helping families and visitors: providing information, staffing our gift shop, and taking on many other tasks. Community members also volunteer to serve on advisory boards for a variety of our centers, including the UVa Cancer Center, the UVa Children's Hospital, and the UVa Heart and Vascular Center. In addition, they are enthusiastic supporters of our Children's Miracle Telethon, which raises money for the UVa Children's Hospital.
