Community Outreach Recycling Program

The Community Outreach Ink Cartridge Recycling Program makes helping out as simple as throwing away your trash. This program facilitates the recycling of ink cartridges, old cell phones, and other items throughout the UVA Health System.

By recycling used ink cartridges and cell phones not only does this program protect the environment, it supports the signature programs of the UVA Health System's Office of Community Outreach. Through a partnership with Cartridges for Kids, each item recycled is assigned a dollar value. These funds go directly towards supporting signature outreach programs of the UVa Health System Office of Community Relations.

UVa volunteers recycle unused medical supplies for the Merci Project

Specifically, the funds raised help to support the Remote Area Medical Clinic (RAM) and the Medical Equipment Recovery of Clean Inventory (MERCI) project at UVA. For patients seen at the RAM clinics, we hope to support the purchase of a six to twelve month supply of hearing aid batteries for those receiving hearing aids and a six to twelve month supply of diabetes testing strips.  Additionally funds will assist with the shipping cost associated with sending usable supplies to medical missions in need through the MERCI program.

UVa Health System Community Outreach Recycling Program

Currently there are over 60 departments participating with more than 80 ink cartridge collection bins throughout the Health System!  If you or your department is interested in participating, email Rhiannon Franck (Rhiannon@virginia.edu) You will receive a free collection box as well as fliers to encourage the participation of your coworkers. A representative from Community Outreach will collect all items recycled monthly.
