Community Service Award Recipients
The 2008 Community Service Awards were presented at a ceremony on Tuesday, October 28 in the Rotunda to Mohan Nadkarni, MD and M. Edward Hicks, Jr., CO, C.Ped. Additionally two Community Builders were designated: Michelle Hobbs and Doris Strother. Seventy-two people attended, including individuals from both the health system and academic side of UVA, as well as community partners. Pictured below are the Community Service Award recipients with Mr. R Edward Howell, VP and CEO of the UVA Medical Center and Dr. Sharon Hostler, Senior Associate Dear and Vice Provost of the UVA School of Medicine.

2008 Community Service Award Honoree: M. Edward Hicks, Jr., CO, C.Ped
Ed Hicks serves on the Lovingston Ruritan Social Club and also serves as Treasurer on the board of the Adventure Camp, Inc, a camp for children with limb loss. Ed also drives the Jaunt van to bring UVA employees to work.
2007 Community Builder Award Honoree: Michelle Hobbs, Pharm. D.
Michelle Hobbs has been coordinating the pharmacy services for the annual RAM Clinics in Wise, VA and Grundy, VA since 2001. She also participated in the New Orleans RAM Clinic in 2004, and spearheaded the clinic for residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina at Fort Pickett.
2007 Community Builder Award Honoree: Doris Strother
Doris Strother volunteers once a month at the Charlottesville Regional Jail. She is also a Church Leadership Council member and Operations Team Leader for Transformation Ministry First Baptist Church. She is a member of IMPACT Ministry, which addresses pertinent issues in Charlottesville such as housing and transportation.
