Community Outreach

The UVa Health System supports our communities through various outreach initiatives. One of the hospital's signature outreach efforts is its involvement with the Remote Area Medical (RAM) organization.

Through this partnership, volunteers from UVA Health System participate in remote clinics in Southwest Virginia three times a year. In 2007, we treated over 1,600 patients at our clinic in Wise, VA and 132 patients in our clinic in Grundy, VA.

Additionally, the University of Virginia Children's Hospital promotes childhood safety and wellness in Charlottesville and surrounding counties. We have already introduced a number of services, including:

  • UVa HEATline - http://UVaHEATline.org a combined website and telephone service which provides timely assessments of weather condition during the summer months to help prevent children from suffering heat-related illness
  • Safe Sliders Winter Safety Program
  • Head Injury Prevention Project (HIPP)
  • Provider of helmets for the Bike Smart Virgina Course in the Charlottesville City Schools
  • Water Safety Campaign
