Welcome

The University of Virginia recognizes service to others as one of our highest callings. Through our shared missions of education, research and health care, we seek to improve the quality of life for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. This site highlights some of the activities of the Health System and specifically the office of Community Relations, Outreach, and Service in helping to meet the needs of our community.

Governor Timothy M. Kaine announced recipients of the 2008 Governor's Volunteerism and Community Service Awards on April 17, 2008. These awards highlight the efforts of outstanding citizens of the Commonwealth who seek to enhance the lives of others in their communities.

The Office of Community Outreach is honored to receive the Government Award for Community Service in recognition of volunteer efforts at the Remote Area Medical (RAM) Clinic.  (Governor's Volunteerism and Community Service Awards)

At this clinic, some 160 UVA Health System volunteers provide medical care to underserved people in the remote, rural mountain regions of Southwest Virginia.
