David M. Kahler, M.D.Associate Professor of Orthopaedic SurgeryEvaluation of a Computer Integrated Surgery
technique for percutaneous fixation of acetabular fractures. Computer
integrated surgery will allow minimally invasive or percutaneous
stabilization of acetabular fractures while minimizing the radiation
exposure, questionable sterility, and prolonged operative time associated
with the current technique of Computer Tomography-guided percutaneous
fixation. The purpose of our study is to assess the applicability of the
technique to screw placement in acetabular fracture surgery in terms of
accuracy and efficiency, without the benefit of intraoperative
radiographic imaging. Other potential applications of the technique
include pelvic and femoral osteotomy, internal fixation of pelvic
fractures, and treatment of sacro-iliac joint disruption.
