Questions about your bill

A major worry people have in coming to the hospital is their bill. What does insurance cover? Why am I getting so many forms in the mail? Where do I go if I need help?

All insurance policies are different and so we can't answer all your specific questions on this sheet. What we can do is point out where to get help.

  1. Your Insurance Company: Your insurance company can answer questions about what they will and will not cover
  2. The University of Virginia: You may receive bills from two (2) sources at the University of Virginia:
    • The Health System: These are bills from the hospital stay. If you need help understanding this bill you can call the patient financial representative whose name and number is on your bill or you can call (434) 924-5376.
    • The Health Services Foundation: These are the bills from your doctor. If you need help with this bill you may call 1-800-868-6600.
