The Division of Sports Medicine at the University of Virginia is committed to the care of athletes at all levels.  We take care of intercollegiate athletes at several local/regional universities to include all sports at both the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and James Madison University in Harrisonburg.  We serve as team physicians for several local high schools.  We also serve a vast array of recreational athletes and weekend warriors.  We are committed to not only remain current in the rapidly expanding field of orthopaedic sports medicine, but to continue as leaders in the field.  Our research, publications, medical education, and clinical successes are unparalleled and rank among the nation’s finest programs.   We are committed to the timely and professional care of all sports medicine patients locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.  We have “ready-access” appointments using our team of providers and provide urgent appointments for competitive athletes at both the high school and college levels.  We would love to have you meet our team!

We are involved in many areas of clinical research to expand the knowledge and available treatments for athletic injuries.  Our ongoing current research includes the areas of anterior cruciate ligament tears and reconstruction, knee pain, osteoarthritis of the knee and shoulder, shoulder instability surgery, and knee cartilage surgery.  Further information on any of these research opportunities may be obtained by contacting Dr. Joseph Hart at 434-243-0256 or by accessing the clinical trials website at UVA: http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/internet/clinical_trials/
