David M. Kahler, MD
Following Medical School and Residency at Tulane in New Orleans, Dr. Kahler came to the University of Virginia as a fellow in Hand Surgery and Sports Medicine. He was granted a faculty appointment and has spent his entire academic career at UVA. In the 1990's Dr. Kahler became one of the pioneers in the new field of computer-assisted surgery, performing the first computer guided pelvic fracture surgeries in the world. He now primarily treats patients with shoulder problems, while also caring for all patients with pelvic and acetabular fractures at the University. He also enjoys treating patients with challenging fracture problems, such as periarticular fractures, nonunions.

Beyond Orthopaedics
"I am married to Vicky Norwood, head of Pediatric Nephrology
at UVA, and we finally slowed down long enough to have our
first and only child in 2003. She is a great kid and has adjusted well to the fact that most people assume we are her Grandparents! Aside from my passion for orthopaedic innovation at the national and international level, I enjoy working on our "play farm" in Earlysville, VA, where we grow vegetables, raise chickens and fight back the vegetation and deer each year. I try to clear enough brush for a good paintball match with the Residents during visiting professor week."
